Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you work with?
I work with children, parents and caregivers, teens, and adults. For younger clients, I work with children approximately ages 4–14, while also providing individual therapy for teens and adults, as well as support for parents and caregivers. No matter someone’s age, I believe therapy should meet them where they are and reflect their individual needs, experiences, and stage of life.
What concerns can therapy help with?
Therapy can help with everything from anxiety, emotional reactivity, grief and loss, and low self-esteem to stress, relationship challenges, traumatic experiences, and major life transitions. Depending on your age and stage of life, this might include changes at school or work, divorce, a new sibling, relationship difficulties, outbursts, or periods of uncertainty and change.
What does therapy look like for children?
Children don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling or experiencing, so therapy can take many forms depending on their age, developmental stage, and individual needs. I take a warm, child-led, and individualized approach, using play, conversation, creative activities, mindfulness, and other tools to help children express themselves, process their experiences, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping.
What if my child feels too old for play therapy?
As children get older, therapy changes with them. Some older children and teens prefer to talk, while others feel more comfortable talking while drawing, playing a card game, working with sand, or using a fidget. The activities may change, but the underlying principles remain the same: kids show me what they need, and I go where they lead.
How do you work with parents and caregivers?
Parents and caregivers have an incredibly powerful role in their child’s growth, and sometimes supporting the parent is the best place to start. I help parents better understand their child’s emotional and behavioral needs, strengthen their relationship, and develop practical skills and strategies they can use at home and in everyday life.
Do you work with adults?
Yes. I provide individual therapy for adults using a warm, collaborative, and individualized approach informed by psychodynamic therapy and several decades of mindfulness practice and study. Together, we can explore what you’re experiencing, better understand patterns in your life and relationships, and develop new ways of navigating challenges and moving forward.
Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?
I currently offer virtual therapy, with plans to begin offering in-person sessions later this year. Availability may vary depending on age and the type of support you’re looking for, and we can talk about what format is most appropriate for our work together.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance directly. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement, and I can provide the documentation you need to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
How do I know what type of support is right for me + my family?
You don’t need to have that figured out before reaching out. We can start by talking about what’s going on, what you’re hoping for, and what you or your family may need right now. From there, we can determine what kind of support and approach might make the most sense.
