About Me

Hello, my name is Hope Perlman, LCSW, M.Ed., and I am a psychotherapist passionate about helping children, parents, teens, and adults navigate life's challenges, better understand themselves, and move forward with greater confidence. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, emotional challenges, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, and major life transitions, offering a supportive space to explore their experiences and find healthier ways of coping.

I believe that therapy should meet you where you are, recognizing that every person brings their own experiences, needs, and perspectives into the therapeutic relationship. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized, incorporating play therapy, conversation, reflection, and mindfulness depending on each person's age and needs. Whether I'm helping a young child express emotions through play, supporting a parent through family challenges, or working with a teen or adult navigating change, my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself.

My path to becoming a therapist was a circuitous one. Before entering the field, I was a writer, teacher, and mom, experiences that continue to shape my understanding of people, relationships, and the different stages of life. I've also studied and practiced mindfulness for several decades, an experience that informs both my personal life and my therapeutic work. As a lifelong learner, I'm continually exploring new perspectives and approaches that deepen my understanding of the people I work with.

I earned my Master's degree in Social Work from the University at Albany and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I also hold a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Certification in Elementary Education from Lesley University. I'm currently pursuing advanced training in child and adolescent psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy, further expanding my understanding of emotional development, relationships, and the experiences that shape us.

Inspired by psychologist Carl Rogers, I believe meaningful change begins with acceptance, connection, and feeling truly understood. I bring this philosophy into my work with people of all ages, creating a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, curiosity, and respect. My hope is that our work together helps you develop greater self-understanding, navigate life's challenges, and discover new possibilities for growth.

Take the First Step

When people are given the time, support, and acceptance they need, meaningful growth becomes possible. The first step is reaching out for an introductory consultation, where we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels like the right fit.
